Week 9

Week 9 is here.

The red-hot Northwestern travel to #21 Purdue (5-2) in what I hope will be a decent test for Timmy.

Conversely, a 2-5 Iowa lay ahead of BC's Michigan, who have slipped to #22 in the rankings, probably due to the inferior quality of opponent last week in the shape of Akron.

Spartans have a 5-2 Wisconsin job to face. Confidence is at a low point after last week's gut-wrenching loss to a mid-range opponent.

  1. Just a quick recap as I didnt have alot of time to keep sepcific details.

#3 Northwestern travel to face #21 Purdue. Purdue derailed Northwestern's Big Ten championship bid last season, so would the Wildcats continue towards a Big Ten title?

NU receive the ball and promptly move to with in FG range where the drive stalls.

Purdue's offense barely registers in the first half as they are dominated by NU. NU kicks another FG with just under a minute remaining in the half.

Purdue's next drive is a continuation of the past, but this time it ends in a pick from Freshman Safety Joe Anderson, who is rated so highly by the Northwestern coachin staff that he plays nickelback, picked off a pass with 30 seconds to go. NU cap the turnover with a TD as time expires.

NU 13 Purdue 0 at the half.

Purdue promptly take the ball down the field and score a TD on their opening drive. NU just need one score and the game is essentially in the bag, but QB Joe Mauro throws a terrible pass across his body under pressure which is promptly picked and returned to paydirt.

    Purdue 14 lead Northwestern 13

Northwestern insert Freshman RB Lawrence Schmidt into the tailback position as softmore Daniel was not getting it done (regular starter Simmons is out for at least another week)

Schmidt is integral in a 5:30 drive that is capped by his first NCAA rushing TD, and a 2 PT conversion.

The Wildcats leave less than a minute for the Purdue offence. Purdue fail to use any of their timeouts, and with 30 seconds remaining throw a backwards pass into the flat, where Freshman Joe Anderson makes the play of the day to knock down the pass causing a fumble, and then roll on top to recover (you have to see this video)

NU score another TD to Lawrence Schmidt to cap a remarkable showing by NU's recruits.

PLayer of the game was Joe Anderson with 1 Int, 1 FF 1 Fumble recovered and 5 tackles (from memory)

  2. Video is on my EA profile... I cant work out how to get it here.... I cant even copy and paste the link.

Turns out that it was a deflected pass, so the POG actually went to Freshman RB Schmidt with 48 yards and 2 TD's in the second half.
