Wow. Still both you guys running hot at 5-0. Impressive. And scary for me haha.
Timmy's NU breaks into the top 5!!!! Now #4 Wildcats host a 2-3 Minnesota, a stepping stone on their way to a higher Coaches Poll ranking I am sure :-).
BC also 5-0 with Michigan, faces a much sterner test as #10 Purdue roll into town. With 4 wins, their only loss so far came in Week 1 at an always tough Notre Dame. 4 wins on the bounce, and fresh off a Bye Week should make this game one to watch.
My Spartans make the trip to Kent State (1-4), for I think the first time in a match with no broadcast this season.
Best of luck guys.

Spartans - 38
ReplyDeleteKent State - 21
It was strange not having the commentary in the background for this match. It started out very well, with the opening Kent State play from kickoff producing a fumble and great field position for the Spartans.
A 20 yard pass and perfectly executed blocking on a 6 yard rush later, and it was 7-0 within 30 seconds.
Kent State were again in a giving mood, lasting just 3 plays before throwing a pick to OLB Espinosa, who had almost passed the OL on his way to the QB.
Michigan State couldn't capitalise on this latest turnover, missing a FG from 45 yards, wide left.
A straightforward 3 and out from Kent State would give the ball back to the Spartans for the third time in the first quarter. The possession carried into the 2nd, where a 39 yard FG was this time successful from Freshman Busch.
Kent State were just not clicking, punting again after 6 plays. Punished by a Spartans' offense in holiday mode, with QB Kirk Cousins just evading a 3 man rush to fire off a dart to TE Charlie Gantt for the score.
Kent State finally looked to make something of their offensive possession, driving into the red zone for the first time on the back of two 20+ yard passing plays. This all meant nothing, as CB Bryden Trawick leaped highest to pluck the TD bound ball out of the air, and subsequently take it 101 yards for the Defensive TD.
Fed up with the dominance, Kent State aired it out over 78 yards to break the duck egg on the scoreboard. A successful 2 pt conversion would see the sides go in at a score of 24-8.
It took the Spartans 2 possessions in the second half to continue their scoreboard dominance. A 4 yard strike to WR Bell widening the gap to 23.
Kent State must have thought they were part of a horrible nightmare when their first play from the restart was again fumbled and recovered by MSU. Cousins and Bell hooking up for the second time in as many possessions to stroll into a more than comfortable 38-8 scoreline.
Kent looked to make a game of it, scoring twice in the 4th quarter, but the match was sealed by the Spartan's earlier dominance.
Final Score MSU - 38
Kent State - 21
Top Performers were Spartans' MLB Greg Jones, driving his tackle count to 13 on the day, but his 3 Forced Fumbles were each turning points. Clinical defense from the Senior.
A late show from Kent State QB Giorgio Morgan ensured he would be named their MVP on the day. 29/45 completions for a respectable 379 yards, 2 TD's and 1 of his own on the ground.
Minnesota travel to face #4 NU at Ryan Field.
ReplyDeleteMinnesota's first first down comes off a 15 yard personal foul for roughing the passer, but 3 plays later they punted to NU.
Both offenses would struggle early with NU punting after a sack and a false start grind a good drive to a halt. Minnesota's next drive is not much better, giving up a sack and again punting.
NU takes over from their own 20 and turns the ball over on an INT after an aggressive Gophers defense brings more rushers than there are blockers.
The first points look to be in the bag as Minnesota begin their drive on the NU 35 yard line, but NU's defense steps up with a solid tackle on a 4th and 1 from the 26. NU's offense can not take advantage of a game turning play and end their drive with a punt down to the 5 yard line, leaving Minnesota with 1:10 on the clock.
NU's defense stands up again and forces a punt form the Gophers 7, leaving the offense 46 seconds and 1 Timeout.
Again, defence is king as Minnesota forces a sack fumble on 3rd down with less than 4 seconds on the clock. In a surprise it is 0-0 at the half.
The secong half has belonged to NU all year, and exciting Kick Returner Joe Anderson tries to ensure that wont change with a 42 yard kick return. The drive is capped off with a nice Mauro TD pass to WR Jeremy Ebert. NU 7-0
The Golden Gophers dont wait long to get the game back to a stalemate, reading the NU Cover 0 blitz perfectly, QB Weber finds WR Johnson with a quick slant that goes 48 yards to paydirt. 7-7
NU's next drive is a 4:45 monster that takes them down inside the 20. With less than 25 seconds remaining, the option is to take a 3 point lead and let the dominant defense seal the game, but the pffense stays on the field and fails to convert the play, leading to a turnover on downs. The Gophers run down the clock giving us overtime.
The first drive of Overtime leads to Minnesota losing ground on a 3rd down sack and converting a 44 yard FG attempt.
NU's horrid offense needs a TD to win. NU drives the ball down inside the 20 again, this time there is no mistake as Mauro again finds his Heismann candidate Ebert for the game sealing TD.
#4 NU 13 defeat Minnesota 7 in Overtime.
PLayer of the game should never have been awarded, but it goes to WR Jeremy Ebert who had 3 receptions for 30 yards and 2 TD's.
What happened Timmy? How the hell did you not get the offense firing this week? And why couldn't you have played like this against me? LOL
ReplyDeleteWell, that last game was pretty frustrating. My only touchdown came from a record breaking 94-yard interception return to end run out the first half. Halftime score Mich 10, #10 Purdue 7.
ReplyDeleteI threw a pick and answered the question wrong, and my QB lost all his composure, and I'm pretty sure I didn't throw a completion for the entire second half. I was 6 for 28 or something for the entire game and those 6 completions probably all came from the 10 play opening drive of the game. I had a QB rating of 20 something haha. Oh well.
My defense made some pretty big stops late in the game, forcing key turnovers to give my offense every opportunity to string together a game winning drive considering we were only 4 points down on the scoreboard.
My QB never regained his composure however and on 4th down, even with the perfect pocket formed and little to no pressure coming from Purdue, I over threw another receiver, this time a short, wide-open curl route. An incomplete pass that effectively ended the not only the drive, but Michigan's undefeated streak.
Haha so dramatic, but fun. Looking forward to next week!
Couldnt tell you... was just terrible.
ReplyDeleteDid you adjust the AI???? :)
Both Bob and I struggled so maybe you did!!!
I dont want an undefeated season though..... you start to get bored when you dominate all the time.
